At the Vatican, the new pope Francis wants a Church that is poor and for the poor. In Italy, the new elected president of the House, Laura Boldrini, wants the parliament to be the house of good politics, while the newly elected president of the senate, Piero Grasso, a former anti-mafia prosecutor, promises to continue his anti-mafia fight from the senate. It doesn’t sound like the same Church. It doesn’t sound like the same Italy. Change will not come over night and the journey is still a long one. But change is underway and seems possible. Avanti!
